TONY REYES FISH REPORT

Hi, anglers. Tony recently returned from another successful trip on the Sea of Cortez with a group led by Dennis Jacob from Central Arizona. Dennis has been joining Tony on fishing trips for almost 20 years. Tony talked about how good the weather has been, and the happy anglers caught a diverse range of fish, including Yellowtail, Cabrilla, Bass, pargo, Sheepshead, Grouper, Broomtail Grouper, Seabass, Humboldt squid, and more. They also released 322 miscellaneous fish. Check out Tony’s schedule for 2025 and 2026 at www.tonyreyes.com. There are still some openings on the boat this year, and fishing is good! Adios. Tom. …The Longfin

Bahía de Los Ángeles

I landed at LAX from Malaga, Spain, last week. I took a day to fine-tune my fire safety protocol at the cabin with a weed whacker on my Heaven’s Half Acre. Picking up my trusty Baja Beast, I headed down to the Baja Casita with Kurt Schaefer to see how many Yellowtail we could catch.

We had a beautiful, non-eventful drive to Cortez …Paradise, and for eight days, we enjoyed epic weather and excellent fishing. We witnessed some marine mammal magic as Humpback Whale fed on massive hordes of anchovy, and a huge school of dolphin (well over 1,000) were boat-side, having their way with more bait resources — (all over smooth seas and the watchful eye of full moons rising nightly).

Large Yellowtail were biting, and so were we! We enjoyed a few insane meals…one at Los Viendos and, on the last night…a Birthday Celebration for Kurt at Lizzy’s Grill with long-time friends Chris Wheaton and Earl Roberts, enjoying Brandt Beef Filet Mignon, a fresh platter of Yellowtail Sashimi, Mexican Style, and some fresh fried Calamari that have invaded the local bay waters.

Life is to be lived! By doing so, it serves as a constant reminder that every day counts. Make each of them worthy of your memories…Bill Boyce

Punta Chivato

I just watched the Starlink Rocket Launch here in Chivato. It was awesome! Did you see it from there? Anyway, we just returned. We had been gone for five months. Yesterday was our first day out, and Theresa caught (maybe) the First Dorado of the season here in Chivato! Also, she caught a 50-pound Amberjack! The tournament is coming up this Friday and Saturday. …Craig Cove

As the week unfolded, the waters of Cabo continued to offer excitement and variety for anglers of all skill levels. Whether it was success, accomplishment, camaraderie, or appreciation for the beauty of the ocean, it was another memorable week on the water. Some anglers were excited about catching trophy fish, while others were pleased with the volume of fish they caught, and many were content with the variety of fish they encountered or hooked in one day. From the smooth, skilled coordination of the captains and mates aboard an assortment of boats, the experiences were as diverse as the anglers themselves. Every angler aboard the Pisces fleet returned with a story.

“CHASIN TAIL,” a 62-foot Viking with Captain Pepe and Mates Hamo, Dulce, and Ulises, took the group from Bakersfield, California, Alyssa Torres, Brooklyn Garant, Johnny Upshaw, Kyle Connelly, Lester Surgener II, Robyn Surgener, and Rylee Sellers out for a day on the water. They were having a great time and caught and released an 80-pound Striped Marlin on bait. They also caught two 20-pound Yellowfin Tuna on bait and one 70-pound Wahoo on curry, all at the 95 Spot. Many pleasant things happened throughout the day, and most of the group enjoyed them. Ensenada

Bottom fishers aboard boats like Sammy and Don Jesus I are bringing in a colorful assortment of Vermilion Rockfish, Salmon Grouper, and nice-sized Lingcod, pulled from deeper spots with precision. The usual suspects—Ocean Whitefish and California Sheepshead—continue to round out solid limits. Adding a little extra excitement, a few Pacific Bonito have whispered rumors that tuna turn into a roar. These first solid signs have ignited anticipation across the docks, with bait receivers buzzing and crews checking tackle with renewed purpose. Back inside the bay, the early-morning bite favors those bundled in layers. White Seabass are slipping through the kelp edges, and Corbina tease the shallows—perfect for light-tackle enthusiasts.

Gonzaga Bay

I fished with Mr. Jake Wright and his friends, and we had a blast catching multiple species—Hog Fish, Barred Pargo, Leopard Grouper, Sierra, and Gulf Grouper for a Super fun day fishing near shore. …fishonnn! Captain Juan Cook

Greetings: We are off to a slow start due to unrelenting wind and high seas. Yesterday, we tried for Dorado, and my partner caught a small one; then we decided to look for Roosters. We visited several holes, but no one was home. However, we finally ended up at a place where we caught around a half-dozen each. Today, the Rooster “hunt and haul” was about the same as yesterday, except toward the end, I got a 45-pounder, which made my day! Hoping the weather will get better soon…Carl Blackledge

East Cape

There have been many small to medium Roosters up and down the beaches inshore. There has also been good action on the large Roosters on live bait in the deep water out front of the Lighthouse. The Marlin bite has been excellent recently. And there’s some Tuna; we had lots and lots of Tuna. They’re out there quite a ways, around 40 miles. There are a few Dorado yet, one here and one there, out in the Tuna grounds, or the occasional one caught while looking for Marlin.

There are lots of small Roosters inside, up north past Pescadero, and there are some big Roosters. The Marlin bite is here and there, but there are few Dorado. However, we had a guest from Japan who caught 11 big Dorado on the boat in just six days…Jeff DeBrown

Gordo Banks

The caballito supply has been down significantly. The bait guys were able to get more mullet than caballito, which works just as well for Roosterfish. Rooster action continues to be good. Hot areas for Rooster action were throughout the Hotel Zone shoreline (Trailer Park), La Bocana, and La Laguna. We saw larger Roosters throughout the shoreline of San Luis, some of them in the 40 to 50-pound range.

Most boats focused inshore the first few hours of the morning, then headed offshore in search of Marlin, Dorado, or Wahoo. Many boats hooked into multiple Marlin, or a handful of big Dorado (30 to 45 pounds), and a couple of big Wahoo. Most of these strikes came on rigged ballyhoo and marlin lures. We covered areas from both Gordos and Calderon, as well as the 1150 Bank. Many boats reported spotting large schools of Dorado, although they wouldn’t bite on lures or ballyhoo; these boats did not have live caballito.

One of our boats specifically tried 10 to 12 different rock piles and reefs on Friday (with four anglers) for bottom action and reported zero strikes (fishing both jigs and live bait)…Good Fishing, Brian Brictson
