UPDATE December 17, 2014:  The toll road officially reopened for through traffic on December 16th, 2014. For more information on the opening, see HERE.

In December 2013, a portion of the scenic toll road between Rosarito and Ensenada collapsed in a landslide at Salsipuedes. The road fell as much as 100 feet in some places after seismic activity hit the area. The toll road has been closed in both directions from La Fonda to San Miguel since the collapse and crews have been working to repair the road. Traffic has been diverted inland along the free road. This detour takes about the same amount of time as it did to drive along the toll road, but it’s a windy two-lane road so drivers should exercise patience and caution. For photos and more information about the detour see HERE.

UPDATE August 18, 2014: CAPUFE, the government branch responsible for repairing the road, is saying that the toll road will be reopened by September, 15, 2014. There are a few projects that they will continue work on in order to prevent another collapse in the future (those projects will be completed by April 2015), but that construction will not affect traffic.

  2. Killian Collins says:

Are there any photo’s or drawings of how the new portion of the road is laid out?

    1. Discover Baja says:

As of right now, we don’t have any information on that. As soon as we hear anything, we’ll let everyone know.
